City Council filing opens December 10
Have you ever considered running for City Council? Filing for City Council candidates begins Tuesday, December 10, 2024, at 8:00 am and continues through Tuesday, December 31, 2024, at 5:00 pm. You may file in the City Clerk’s office on the second floor of City Hall, 201 S. Franklin St., Monday through Friday, 8:00 to 5:00 pm. City Hall will be closed on December 24 and 25, 2024.
The Municipal Election for City Council will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2025. There are two full, three-year terms available in the election.
To qualify, you must be 21 years of age prior to taking office; a US citizen; a resident of Kirksville for one year preceding the election; and a registered voter. Anyone who has been found guilty of, or pled to, a felony does not qualify. Prior to filing, each person must complete an “Affidavit” with the Missouri Department of Revenue affirming that all state income, personal property, and real property taxes on their place of residence have been paid. December office closures
All City offices will be closed on December 6, 2024, for an employee meeting.
All City offices will be closed December 24 and December 25, 2024, in observance of Christmas.
All City offices will also be closed Wednesday, January 1, 2025, in observance of New Year’s Day.

Public Christmas tree drop-off
Are you wondering what to do with your old Christmas tree? The City will offer a free Christmas tree drop-off from Monday, December 30, 2024, through Monday, January 6, 2025! Christmas trees may be dropped off within the orange fenced-in area in the northeast corner of the Missouri Street and Main Street public parking lot. All decorations, including ornaments, lights, tinsel, etc., must be removed prior to drop-off. We appreciate your cooperation!
2025 budget process continues
The first public reading for the 2025 budget will happen during a public hearing at the City Council meeting on December 2, 2024, at 6:00 pm at City Hall. This is an opportunity for Kirksville residents to offer input into the budget process and for the Council to consider revisions.
This is still a proposed budget until the Council approves the final document at its December 16, 2024, meeting.
The proposed budget is available for review online at kirksville.gov/p/budget, or in the City Clerk’s office at City Hall.

Holiday Marketplace, December 4-20 @ the Sue Ross Arts Center
The Kirksville Arts Association’s 5th annual Holiday Marketplace will be open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday and 9:00 am to 3:00 pm on Saturdays. Stop in and find some locally crafted goodies that will make for great presents.
Missouri Livestock Symposium, December 6 and 7 @ William Matthew Middle School
The Missouri Livestock Symposium is the premier educational event and trade show for livestock producers. If you’re serious about livestock production, don’t miss this lineup of nationally-known speakers covering timely topics, and our large agricultural trade show. ATSU Reindeer Romp, December 7, 9:00 am @ Dukum Inn
The Annual Reindeer Romp four-mile run & 1.5-mile walk is the perfect way to dash into the holiday season with a jolly heart! Join us for this merry event where festive fun meets community spirit, all while supporting two wonderful causes: The Salvation Army and the Radio Park Food Drive.
