Thanks to all of the people who worked to make this year’s Hometown Holiday happen, as well as all of the residents who came out and had some festive fun. Here’s to everyone having a happy holiday season and happy New Year in 2023!
2023 budget in final stages of planning
The City of Kirksville is in the final stages of the 2023 budget planning process. You can view the proposed budget online at https://bit.ly/3gLbngF. As part of the first public reading of the budget, there will be a public hearing on Monday, December 5, 2022, during that City Council meeting.
Any revisions made as a result of the first public reading will be made prior to the final budget presentation, which will happen on Monday, December 19, 2022.
City Council filing opens December 6
Have you ever considered running for City Council? Filing for City Council candidates begins Tuesday, December 6, 2022, at 8:00 am and continues through Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at 5:00 pm. You may file in the City Clerk’s office at City Hall, 201 S. Franklin St., during regular business hours, Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 12:00 pm and 1:00 pm to 5:00 pm, except for designated holidays. The Municipal Election for City Council will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2023.
To qualify, you must be 21 years of age prior to taking office; a US citizen; a resident of Kirksville for one year preceding the election; and a registered voter. Anyone who has been found guilty of, or pled to, a felony does not qualify. Prior to filing, each person must complete an “Affidavit” with the Missouri Department of Revenue affirming that all state income, personal property, and real property taxes on their place of residence have been paid. Breakfast With Santa tickets still available
There are still tickets available for Breakfast With Santa, so get yours while you can. The 10:00 am slots on December 3 and December 10 have the most open remaining spaces. There are still a few slots open for 8:30 am on December 3.

Letters to Santa now open
The elves at the City of Kirksville Parks and Recreation Department are excited to announce that the annual Letters to Santa program is back!
Santa will also be responding to letters via email. Send your child’s letter directly to Santa at santa@kirksvillecity.com and Santa will respond to every letter he receives. We will also be working with all Adair County schools to accept handwritten letters as well.
We do ask that you include: Name of school, Name of teacher and grade, Student’s name, and a few things that the child would like for Christmas
All letters to Santa should be submitted no later than December 15, 2022, to guarantee Santa’s ability to respond before winter break.
Public Christmas tree drop-off
Are you wondering what to do with your old Christmas tree? The City will offer a free Christmas tree drop-off from Tuesday, December 27, 2022, through Friday, January 6, 2023! Christmas trees may be dropped off within the orange fenced-in area in the northeast corner of the Missouri Street and Main Street public parking lot. All decorations, including ornaments, lights, tinsel, etc., must be removed prior to drop-off. We appreciate your cooperation!
Upcoming City office closures
Beginning at 12:00 pm on Friday, December 9, 2022, all City of Kirksville offices, including Utility Billing, will be closed for the annual City-wide staff meeting.
City offices will also be closed on Friday, December 23 and Monday, December 26 in observance on Christmas, and on Monday, January 2, 2023, for New Year’s.

The Kirksville Arts Associations' Holiday Marketplace returns to the Sue Ross Arts Center. It is open from 11:00 am to 4:00 pm Monday through Friday, then from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm on Saturdays. For more info, visit kirksvillearts.org.
Missouri Livestock Symposium. December 2, 4:00 pm to 9:00 pm and December 3, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm @ William Matthew Middle School.
The Missouri Livestock Symposium is the premier educational event and trade show for livestock producers. The Kohlenberg Lyceum Series — Truman State University Steel Band. December 3, 7:30 pm to 9:00 pm @ Baldwin Auditorium.
The University Steel Band will perform its holiday concert. All events will take place at 7:30 p.m. Admission is free but tickets are required and can be reserved at the Sue Ross Arts Center in downtown Kirksville, the Advancement Office in McClain Hall 205 and the SAB window in the Student Union Building. 38th Annual Reindeer Romp. December 10, 9:00 am @ Dukum Inn.
With a four-mile run and 1.5-mile walk, the Reindeer Romp is a wonderful way to celebrate the holiday season while supporting the Salvation Army and Radio Park Food Drive. There will be food and toy box collections at both the Dukum Inn and Thompson Campus Center on race day. All registered runners and walkers receive a long-sleeve T-shirt, jingle bells, and post-race refreshments. After the race enjoy a soft tissue massage by the SAAO stretch clinic.
